Job Description
Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Law degree with a minimum of second class lower (2:2). The applicant must have been called to bar with evidence of academic qualification and at least 3 years’ relevant post-qualification experience.
Key Responsibilities
a. The officer must ensure that the organization complies with the statutory and corporate governance guidelines and practices as observed in the legal industry.
b. He or she must provide and use written or oral platforms to brief staff members/management on legal issues and the implication of potential liabilities and suggest possible courses of action
c. He or she must be able to consider every possible legal problem before making any suggestions and recommendations
d. The legal officer must make sure that whatever course of action they recommend is in complete compliance with the law.
e. The officer must work hard to minimize risk for the university.
f. The legal officer must continuously research legal resources such as codes, judicial decisions, articles, statutes, and more to remain appraised with the current trends in the practice.
g. Regularly analyze the decisions and actions of the university to identify problem areas, suggest alternative courses of action, and mitigate risk as much as possible.
h. Provide commercial legal support to all departmental projects and job functions.
i. Perform other tasks as directed by the university management.
Applicants with first degrees MUST have completed the mandatory one-year National Youth Service. He or she must be God-fearing and have good communication skills. Those applying for the technologist position are required to possess appropriate skills and orientation for their respective disciplines, as well as possess teaching abilities with adequate research experience.
