About Candidate

Dear Sir / Madam,

I write to apply for the position of Assistant Lecturer at your great citadel of knowledge – Covenant University (CU).

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at the Tai Solarin University of Education, Nigeria. I had about 8 years of experience both in teaching and researching on Molecular Biotechnology.

My Bachelor’s Dissertation focused on the influence of Moringa leaf meal (MOLM) supplementation on growth performance, haematological parameters, and faecal egg count of West African Dwarf Sheep.

The results showed that it is evident that inclusion levels of Moringa oleifera leaf meal in the diet of West African dwarf rams might increase their feed intake and dry matter intake as well as other performance characteristics, with no impairment in health status and reduction in the worm burden, and It can also be supplemented in the diet to reduce the worm load to reduce the worm burden of naturally infected sheep..

The key findings have been published in a peer-reviewed international Journal (Nigerian Journal of Animal Science, 2016, 2, 492- 506).

In order to know more about microbial pathogenesis and their antimicrobial resistance machinery, i proceeded for my Master’s program at the North-West University, South Africa through the University Institutional Bursary (North-West University Postgraduate Awards). Where I combined teaching as a graduate assistant with research in the laboratory.

I also graduated with excellent grades for the MSc in Molecular Biology from North-West University, South Africa. This shows my capability for cross-border research. I have two first-author papers that are currently under review in international journals and have contributed as a co-author in an already published papers.

It is therefore conceivable that I can teach, conduct independent research and write manuscripts for publication. I have also taught biology and chemistry in a secondary school in Nigeria which has broadens my knowledge of sciences.

My master’s thesis focused on the ‘’Genetic polymorphism of prevalent root nodules bacterial strain from Bambara groundnut (Indigenous African Legumes’’.

The experiences gathered so far has broadened my knowledge and skills in advanced molecular microbiology techniques such as the generation of mutant strains using homologous gene replacement techniques, CRISPR, Cas9, gene editing technology and primer design, nucleic acid isolation and manipulation (DNA and RNA isolation), DNA digestion, ligation and cloning, mRNA expression level assay by qRT-PCR, protein extraction and assay using SDS-PAGE, osmotic stress and oxidative sensitivity tests.

I learned how to use analytical instruments, such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Sequencer, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine and so on.

These opportunities have reinforced my resolve to stay associated with academics and increased my interest in the teaching and research profession which I dream of creating a niche for myself in the near future.

To fulfill my aspirations and dreams stated above, i deem it necessary to apply as assistant lecturer in department of Biological Sciences. Most importantly, i believe that getting this opportunity, will provide me the opportunity to grow and learn advanced theories of plant molecular and cellular biology and sophisticated experimental skills.

I am enclosing my curriculum vitae. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,

Adedayo, Olalekan Ayodele
